A combined dental laser on a mobile cart: Er:YAG at 2940 nm plus diode wavelengths of 980, 650 and 450 nm, for hard tissue, soft tissue and bone. The manufacturer lists more than 80 indications. The 2940 nm wavelength is absorbed by water and hydroxyapatite, so, per the manufacturer, the Er:YAG cuts hard and soft tissue efficiently with minimal heating and leaves no smear layer in cavity preparation. The diode channels complement it: 980 nm for soft-tissue surgery, endo and perio, 650 nm for photobiomodulation and 450 nm for whitening. The software groups indications by discipline, so the whole treatment sequence runs on one unit. Laser work requires trained staff and protective eyewear matched to the wavelengths.
